See what peasant life was like hundreds of years ago at Muzeul National al Satului "Dimitrie Gusti". The open-air site, founded on the shores of a lake in 1936, exhibits nearly 300 structures of rural architecture brought from Romania's historical regions. Walk among steep-roofed peasant homes, farmsteads, log cabins, thatched barns, windmills, and water mills. Take time to visit the steep belfry of the wooden church, the earth houses, and the carved entrances of the 18th-century houses from Berbeşti. Amenities include a souvenir shop selling folk arts and crafts, a stall with traditional Romanian sweets and cakes, and a restaurant set in an original 19th-century inn. Call in advance for guided tours, which are available in English, French, Spanish, Italian, and Russian. On a cold and dreary day, we ventured out to visit this museum. The houses were interesting to see, panel descriptions well done externally. Unfortunately none of the houses were open inside this...

Very beautiful. You can tour through all the old houses and you can realize from the way and the houses they lived, how they thought of Life. You can also understand how short people they were, by the very small doors and short beds and chairs. They were simple. Only the necessary, next to a beautiful river. Great view.

We went there on Thursday an hour before it closed. There was free parking space right in front of the entrance. We used a student discount so a ticket was 8 lei. The houses inside are great, a lot of info to read and see. You can spend 1-2hours easily. We spent an hour inside but managed to see only half of it before we were asked to head to the exit since it was almost closing time. The staff was friendly and the ticket lady knew a bit of English so the service was nice. Cheap for such a great museum. Bear in mind that you need to go in sunny weather since it’s all outside.
