Cetatea Alba Iulia
Star-shaped Cetatea Alba Iulia showcases six monumental gates decorated in the early Baroque style and adorned with sculptures of ancient gods. Charles VI commissioned the building of the fortress, which was completed in 1735. The Italian architect laid out the fort as a seven-pointed star with bastions using the building system of Vauban, the leading military engineer of the 17th century. The citadel includes two palaces, a library, a university, a Romanian Orthodox church, and a medieval Catholic church. Try to time your visit to catch the ceremonial changing of the guards. Amenities include a few restaurants and cafes. Our Alba Iulia trip maker app makes visiting Cetatea Alba Iulia and other Alba Iulia attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Another great citadel in Romania and one of the biggest, Alba Carolina has been a meaningful place for Romanians during different times. The place is huge and if you are not prepared to walk half a day you may rent a bike, take the electric minibus or bring your own bike. Inside there are plenty of restaurants, street foods and bazaars to meet all tastes. Suitable for all ages this plece is also a must-see.

A beautiful medieval times fortress. It is definitely worth your time and money. Positive: lots of places to visit inside it. Negative: nothing worth mentioning. Suggestions: no. Recommend: YES!
