Wake up to not only smell the coffee beans, but also learn the history of how they were produced, at Hacienda Buena Vista. One of Puerto Rico’s best remaining examples of a 19th-century coffee plantation, the site was established in 1833 and stretches across 33.1 ha (81.8 ac) of fertile land, including a subtropical forest. Take a tour of the plantation, fully refurbished and in complete working order, to gain a harrowing insight into the lives of the slaves who worked here. Step inside the farm and grinding mill to witness the power of the Rio Canas and how it operates the still-working hydraulic turbine. If you don't feel like taking a tour, enjoy a self-guided wander through the property. This was honestly a cool place to visit. Scheduling the tour online was confusing but I was able to call the booking number and talk to someone. It seems they only occasionally do the tours. The facility is well maintained and cared for. Most all employees spoke Spanish and English. You get to tour the old residence, the mill that is still operable using hydro-power, and a walking tour into the flora. A neat experience/tour that I am glad we participated in.

Amazing tour of the farm and house. Very interesting piece of history. It was especially interesting seeing how a nearby waterfall was used to bring water and power to various parts of the operation. The location really feels like a pristine area preserved in time.
