Featuring two prominent towers, the red brick St. Mary's Basilica dominates the main square of the city's Old Town. Built in the early 13th century, the church features the largest Gothic altarpiece in the world, carved by German sculptor Veit Stoss. The masterpiece was claimed by the Nazis and moved to Germany during World War II. Recovered and restored after the war, it now sits behind the church's high altar. Admire the bottom of the central panel, which depicts the death of Jesus' mother. On the hour, you can hear the trumpet signal play from the top of the taller tower. • We are on a trip visiting the Christmas markets of Europe. Almost all old town squares have a centuries old church and we have visited many. St. Mary's was better than most. Some nice architecture...

  • This church is simply stunning, must see from the inside. The amount of detail is amazing! I've seen hundreds of churches and cathedrals around Europe, but this is one of my favorites.
  • Very beautiful cathedral in Krakow. According the legend the two towers of the cathedral are built by two brothers. One of them killed the other so he can make his tower higher. There are two entrances - one in front for people who want to prey and side entrance for tourists. Tickets are sold in a nearby building. It's not allowed to make pictures inside, at least from the prayers side.
