Karpacz sits on the slopes of towering Mount Sniezka and draws visitors with its pristine natural scenery. A growing favorite with foreign hikers and skiers, the small town serves as a convenient alternative to the busier and more expensive resorts of the Swiss Alps. Home to just 5,000 permanent residents, Karpacz remains little more than an overgrown mountain village, featuring no discernible city center. The town's western section contains private homes, while its eastern district houses most of the area's restaurants and hotels. Karpacz also serves as a comfortable base camp for day trips to the region's famed biosphere reserve, noted for its diverse plant and animal life.
