Visit L'Aventure du Sucre, a museum housed in the former Beau Plan sugar factory. A range of informative and interactive exhibits introduce you to the story of sugar in the country, providing insight into the general history of Mauritius, slavery in the country, and the rum industry. After some 200 years of production, the factory closed its doors in 1999. Much of the machinery remains in place, however, and locals who once worked here now run tours of the facility, offering a first-hand account of agricultural life in the country. Fantastic museum in an old sugar factory filled with all sorts of Mauritian history and includes sugar and rum tasting! You could easily spend a couple of hours here. The restaurant is also in a beautiful setting with delicious food. Highly recommend adding this to your itinerary! 👍

Very interesting history about Mauritius and the making of sugar from sugar cane. Also the making of rum and rum tasting. The museum is big and one can spend hours there. Especially the old sugar factory is most impressive and well-presented. It was very hot inside the museum while we visited in January 2022. It will help a lot if air conditioning can be installed. Staff is friendly and professional. They went out of their way to assist with queries - especially at rum tasting store. A unique experience.
