Create an itinerary including Rhumerie de Chamarel
Take a tour of Rhumerie de Chamarel to learn about the history of rum production in the country. Opening in 2008, the distillery harvests its own sugar cane by hand instead of burning the crops; the result is an improved flavor and smaller ecological footprint. Surrounded by attractive plant life, where sugar cane, pineapples, and other tropical fruits grow in abundance, the distillery and agricultural plantation form an eco-friendly estate and offer an introduction to the country's agricultural heritage. Let the experienced guides take you through the process of rum-making, and be sure to enjoy a tipple at the end and pick up a bottle to take home with you. • People bring the value of this place down when writing reviews of "extensive" tasting as if someone is forcing them to drink it all. Yes, the rum samples are seriously largish, but if one can't...

  • We visited this unique tourist attraction in the South West part of Mauritius in January 2022. It lies in the heart of a fertile valley in the vicinity of the “Coloured Earths of Chamarel". We had lunch at the L’Alchimiste - an upscale restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff exceptionally well trained. Overall professional. An exquisite place that "blends harmoniously with the spectacular surroundings. Wood, natural stone and water provide a sense of communion with nature". A must see place when visiting Mauritius.
  • Really nicely done. I recommend to pay visit there. We had a great tour over the rum factory and then tasting of (I think) 7 rums which you can of course buy with other stuff. :-) I liked it there!
