Create an itinerary including Takachiho Gorge
Towering walls of basalt accented by several waterfalls awe visitors at Takachiho Gorge, a chasm formed by the waters of the Gokase River. At more than 120,000 years old, the gorge winds its way through the dense forests carpeting the surrounding landscape. You can make use of the 1 km (0.6 mi) paved walking trail that tracks the edge of the canyon, offering views down to the river below and passing several historic shrines along the way. Alternatively, rent a rowboat to explore from atop the water. Enclosed by imposing cliffs that reach as high as 100 m (328 ft) in places, you'll pass by streaming cascades like the Manai Waterfall, which drops from a height of 17 m (56 ft). With our online itinerary creator, Takachiho-cho attractions like Takachiho Gorge can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Well known gorge in Kyushu, Green stream and black cliff make it different from the others. If you have time, you may reserve boat to raft in this gorge.

  • The place is so beautiful and peaceful. You can rent a boat for ¥3,000 for half an hour but there is no one to row you so you have to row alone. You can walk through the canyon for almost its entire length. It has a restaurant and also delicious mango and orange ice cream. To walk around the whole park and have lunch will take you about four hours doing everything calmly. Important is a place worth going to if you are close by, it is not worth traveling far just to go to the canyon.
  • Came here by car, which seems like the best way to get here as the bus times are very limited. Parking is ¥500 for the day. If you don’t book tickets in advance for the boat there will be a 2 to 2.5 hour wait depending on how busy it is. It costs ¥3,000 for a boat and the an extra for ¥1,000 for each person you add on. There are very few shops nearby so bring plenty of water and snacks. Definitely worth a visit, just come prepared!
