Yokozuna Kitanoumi Memorial Hall, Sobetsu-cho

Good place to stop for sumo fans...or if it's raining/snowing! Surprisingly good museum to local boy made great... maybe Sumo Association put money into this small town museum? Not much English, apart from the small leaflet, but it's all understandable with photos and objects. Not just Kitanoumi, but other sumo stars...magazines, sumo cultural stuff, pix. Video of his fights is only in Japanese. Also sumo theme souvenirs. Worth a 30 min stop.

Very good exhibit. Actually way better than the Sumo Museum at Kokugikan stadium in Tokyo. Kitanoumi was born and raised in this Date city. He was a great Yokozuna.
