Former Hokkaido Government Office Building, Sapporo

Featuring a red brick construction and central dome, Former Hokkaido Government Office Building remains one of the country's rare examples of Neo-Baroque architecture. The historic landmark boasts a distinctive appearance based on government buildings from the American state of Massachusetts. Built in 1888 and rebuilt in 1911, the structure features a colorful flower garden, arched windows, block rooftops, and multiple protruding chimneys. Head inside to check out a small museum on the second floor, home to a collection of artifacts and displays chronicling the history of the island and the city.
