Admire the striking black facade of Okayama Castle, also known as “Crow Castle.” Built in 1597, the castle’s main tower was destroyed in the 1945 allied bombing and had to be reconstructed, while two watch towers survived the war. Enjoy the view from the castle grounds, nestled on a small hilltop overlooking the Asahi River, and see the fish-shaped gargoyles on the roof of the main tower, gilded during the celebration of the castle’s 400th anniversary. • The Okayama Castle is very unique compared to other castles throughout Japan in several ways. The most notable is the black color while other traditional castles are white. Other unique features...

  • Like the majority of Japanese castles, the inside is completely restructured and not even a reproduction of older times. What I really liked about the visit was the chance to wear a kimono (for free!). The girls were very helpful, took a bunch of pictures and their English was really good. There might be some queuing in busy times but it was a nice experience. Reccomend it !
  • Such beautiful a castle. Come and visit !
