Yokohama Landmark Tower
Take the lightning-fast elevator up Yokohama Landmark Tower, one of Japan's tallest buildings. You'll ascend at a speed of 12.5 m/s (41 ft/s) to the 69th floor of this 296.3 m (972 ft) high-rise. From there, access the observatory, which enables a 360-degree view of the city and--on a clear day--Mount Fuji. The vast architectural marvel also contains a five-star hotel, shops, restaurants, clinics, and offices. Bear in mind that seismic activity occurs regularly in Japan, but don't worry, since the building contains two tuned mass dampers to counter the quakes. A visit to Yokohama Landmark Tower represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Yokohama road trip planner to plot your vacation.

From the ground, looking at the Landmark Tower, one realizes how incredibly enormous the building is. It is not the height, but mainly the width; and the combination of both. Especially at night...

This was the best part of my trip to Yokohama. We were able to get on Japan’s fastest elevator going 750m a second and that was pretty cool. It was honestly the smoothest elevator stop too! Other than ears popping, it didn’t seem to be moving that fast. The view was great! You just need to pick a day with little clouds. The cost is ¥1000 per person, and well worth it.

Yokohama Landmark Tower is an amazing place to start your Yokohama tour. You can go to the observatory and see all the views. You have clear views of all Yokohama from this vantage point and if you're lucky enough on clear days you can spot Mount Fuji. After the observatory deck feel free to dine in any of the many restaurants. I've yet to be disappointed by the food here so any restaurant, ramen or quick dining affair will be amazing. Shopping is always amazing. Parking can be pricey but I prefer parking in the tower if I haven't taken the train.
