Admire the traditional Japanese architecture and garden design of Katsura Imperial Villa, a well-preserved residence of the Japanese imperial family. Only accessible as part of a tour, visits to the household last around an hour, taking the circular walking route through the garden and around the central pond. Completed in their current form in 1645, the villa and garden display many of the key features of regal Japanese households, including pristine, uncluttered living spaces, sliding doors, garden ornaments, native plant life, and shrines. An interesting place, but you need a reservation in advance. It's a little remote from Kyoto city, but you cen reach this place by train. Nice place for taking pictures during spring and winter season.

One of “must go” places in Kyoto, especially who are interested in architecture or design. Advance reservation via online is basically required to enter the villa though, the villa accepts very limited number of walk-in visiters who have a permission ticket which is handed out every 8:40am at the entrance. (yeah, it is too late if you arrive there at 8:40am. Be there an hour before.) Please note the villa is not just a sightseeing point, is one of the Imperial property. Be polite and enjoy visiting.
