Venture past the ornate street gates and carved lions into Nankinmachi (Kobe Chinatown) for a quick change of scenery, culture, and cuisine. The neighborhood dates back to the 1860s, when Kobe's ports first opened to foreign trade and the earliest Chinese immigrants moved into the city. A large population of Chinese still live there, and the brightly colored signs, many restaurants, and shops selling Chinese imports and souvenirs preserve their distinct heritage. • This is the area between Motomachi Arcade (2km) and Harborland. It is an historic part of Kobe. To the North mountain side is a super arcade. To the south seaside is Merikan Park (American Park...

  • Second best Chinatown in Japan, right behind Yokohama for many. It’s not a super big area which is nice, and you can walk around pretty easily!

  • I'm racially Chinese so this place made me feel nostalgic for certain tastes and smells. Many stalls were serving mostly the same foods but overall it was fun looking for the best prices. Best to eat your food right in front of the stall you bought it from so they can take your rubbish as there are no bins around.
  • Due to my religious constraints, I have a very limited repository of what I have tried but, despite that it is very lively area and entertaining to just stroll around. A mouth watering, fun place with impending festival in September. I would go again real soon
