Create an itinerary including Ken & Mary Tree
A giant, 80-year-old poplar tree made famous by a 1972 Nissan ad campaign, Ken & Mary Tree stands alone in a mustard field against rolling hills and vast fields. Named after two characters in the commercial, the tree stands out as a landmark of Biei region, and even gives its name to a nearby bed and breakfast. Bizarre for most outsiders as a tourist attraction, the location makes a nice stopover if you are driving in the area. You can reach the famous poplar in 10 minutes by car from Biei railway station, or rent a bicycle at the station. • Worth the visit only if you are interested to take photo for social media. Other than that it’s just a tree which appeared in TV commercial way back.

  • A tall tree that appeared in a commercial before, not worth visiting unless you run out of places to kill time..

  • There is a famous large tree on the hill called “Ken & Mary” became famous even on TV for a tree scene in a Nissan Skyline commercial that aired in Japan in 1976. The name of the tree is derived from the character “Ken & Mary” in the ad. About 800 meters from Hokusai no Oka Park.
  • Perhaps on days with lesser people, this tree can be appreciated.. I'm no photographer, nor too interested with trees, this place is not for me. Just a big tree by the roadside.. it has it's own car parking lot as well... The nice thing is the landscape of hills and greenery, and a small stall selling extremely sweet cherries for 500yen per box. Visited here as part of the Biei view bus patchwork road package, can find out more info frm Biei tourists information centre. Can still take the trip if you're free and want to enjoy some nature.
