The Medieval Walls of Venzone
The Medieval Walls of Venzone, the ancient walls of the village, were destroyed in the 1976 earthquake and then rebuilt, stone by stone. The fortifications date back to the 14th century and enclose a number of historic buildings, including the town hall, the cathedral, and the eerie Chapel of San Michele, home to mysterious mummified bodies. Appreciate the tall, imposing fort walls which form a hexagonal shape around the hamlet and boast three historic gates. The village is really small and surrounded by the wall, which were rebuilt after earthquake in 70s last century. It’s worth to have a walk around; takes literally 10 minutes.

We drove past the walled and moated town, went “wow” and turned around. You can drive in but it is such a small area that it’s nice to walk through the ancient archway and wander the quiet streets on.... more

Built in 1258, they protected the village until 1976, when an earthquake almost destroyed it. Rebuilt little by little, using their own stones, they make the whole town more fascinating. A part of the walkway is already passable.
