Vividly painted medieval frescoes adorn Church of Saint Antonio Abate, a striking 15th-century structure in the center of the village, nicknamed "The Sistine Chapel of Friuli." Dedicated to the patron saint of butchers, the small church features colorful, well-preserved frescoes by artist Martino da Urbino. Besides the vibrantly painted interior walls, the building also includes a Renaissance-era facade made from Istrian stone and designed by an unknown architect. • A must, when you are here. Absolutely beautiful. Small in size, but gives you an idea of how colorful it must’ve been when it was originally built.

  • Chiesa di Sant’Antonio Abate (Church of Saint Anthony the Abbot), dating back to the year 1308, and tucked away on a side street, it is dedicated to the patron saint of pork butchers and charcutiers – very appropriate for the town that’s home to Prosciutto di San Daniele! The first known reference to the church dates back to 1308, and there’s a good reason why it’s called the ‘Sistine Chapel of Friuli’ – inside you’ll find a vividly coloured fresco cycle of paintings by Renaissance artist, Pellegrino da San Daniele.
  • Tiny little church
