The site of the Venice Film Festival, Lido runs 11 km (7 mi) along northern Italy but is separated from the mainland by a strip of water. The sandbar island is home to 20,000 Venetian residents and a handful of casinos and hotels. Many of the hotels are near a wide beach along the Adriatic Sea. This spot inspired Thomas Mann's novel "Death in Venice." The sandbar, now a tourist haven, once was home to the doge of Venice, as well as to one of the first settlements in the region. Check out British traveler writer Robin Saikia's history of the island in "The Venice Lido" for a comprehensive overview of the island's history. • The beach, the location and pretty much everything was amazing. Venice is beautiful but equally nice to stay on the Lido to have somewhere to relax, a beach, nice running route and not as busy as...

  • Great and quiet Island, perfect if you want to take a break from the busy city of Venice the prices are lower and it is a great place to visit. I recommend two days to be able to see the island and relax with the beach vibe, loved the architecture as well.
  • Lido is famous for beaches as its only place in Venice for it. It's is a small organized island town by itself as transportation here is good with buses as well apart from ferries. There are lot of shops, banks, normal houses. Looks like locals of Venice stay here as well apart from Venice Mestre. All beaches near to the center or once you get down from ferry point are paid ones. So we need to walk bit for free beach which you can reach by taking bus as well from the ferry point. If you have taken Ferry pass, then that would cover local buses here as well.
