The Archaeological Remains of the Basilica of the Court
The Archaeological Remains of the Basilica of the Court contains excavated remains of a church that dates back to the 4th century. Situated in the heart of Grado, the ruins were unearthed in 1902 when the old town square was renovated. Admire the remains of the basilica complex, illuminated at night, and observe the preserved mosaic floors. The perimeter of the church, discernible by white stones placed on the pavement, shows an octagonal baptistery and basilica with three naves. You can also see a number of sarcophagi and burial sites among the excavations. As you wander around Grado you will surely stumble on this site. It is well preserved and very interesting, although as in much of Italy, there is not much information or interpretation available...

Excavations show the remains of very ancient Christian churches built on this site. Maybe built about 550AD the excavations clearly show the extent of the church(es). Towards the read of the church, there are a couple of large catafalques. worth a visit in passing.

Very beautifully arranged to show antient mosaics, pillars, tombs, walls, yet still preserve the integrity of the town square. One can stroll across the bridges over the ancient excavations and enjoy conversation with friends and the atmosphere of the site.
