Duomo dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, Gradisca d'Isonzo

The Cathedral of Gradisca d'Isonzo dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul is the main church of Gradisca d'Isonzo; before 1789 it was dedicated to San Salvatore. The beautiful facade, in Baroque style, dates back to 1752 and is flanked by a large bell tower. The interior has three naves with side chapels and beautiful works to admire. Of particular importance is the chapel of Sant'Anna with Baroque stuccoes and, at the bottom right, the Torriani chapel with the funeral monument of Nicolò della Torre from 1557, with the deceased depicted on the sarcophagus as a warrior. The main altar in marble is very impressive and occupies the entire space of the presbytery.

The place of worship par excellence in Gradisca d'Isonzo. The celebrations are engaging, the masses sung, the atmosphere that reigns above all on important occasions. I was struck by the involvement of the children by the parish priest and by the girls and boys who work. To reach it, just a short walk in via Bergamas closed to traffic and safe.
