Create an itinerary including Puncak Merapi
Trek up Puncak Merapi, an active volcano of grand proportions. Not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced, the walk up represents a challenge for even the most seasoned of hikers but, once at the top, the extensive views of the surrounding volcanic landscape make up for the energy expenditure. Book a guide to learn about the myths and history surrounding the volcano (and a well-timed pep talk when the hiking gets tough). Put Puncak Merapi on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Pakem trip planner.

  • Very majestic mountain with a great view of the city below. Amazing to come even this close to an active volcano We used a jeep service to get to there which cost $550k IDR. This includes a few different visits to other areas of Mt. Merapi including an off-road area on a running creak. The guide/driver was a great photographer. The sunrise wasn't great due to cloud coverage but the predawn city light and the Sun breaking through was very nice.
  • For anyone wondering, mount Merapi is currently closed due to the ongoing eruptions. However, it can be very beautifully observed from the neighbouring mount Merbabu which can be hiked (with proper planning, official reservation etc)
