At Shani Shingnapur, watch devotees revere a 16 m (55 ft) black rock that symbolizes the Hindu deity Shani. As you reach the entrance, notice the small images of Shiva and Hanuman welcoming visitors to the sacred grounds. Observe how devotees bathe the dark icon with water and oil as they leave flower offerings at the altar. Though it draws approximately 40,000 visitors daily, no women were allowed to enter the inner sanctum until April, 2016.
