Explore the dark side of Hungarian and European history at House of Terror Museum, a specialty museum focusing on fascist and communist regimes. The permanent exhibits feature artifacts from Nazi Germany, the Soviet Union, the fascist Arrow Cross Party, and the communist AVH (Hungarian State Protection Authority). Walk into the depths of violent, dictatorial moments that took place the 20th century by stepping into the museum's basement, where AVH prisoners were once held and tortured. These cells serve as a memorial to victims of the country's bloody regimes. Since it opened in 2002, this museum has become a member of the Platform of European Memory and Conscience. • The entrance and basement were fantastic. Extremely thought provoking and eye opening. We also paid for an audio guide, these automatically played as you entered new sections. However, if you moved...

  • Excellent. So much information delivered in different ways. Exhibits, written information and videos of news broadcasts and personal accounts. Even the outside of the building has plaques with photos of those that were executed. And there is a surprise at the end. Highly recommended and only about £6.50 for the basic tour which could take an hour to half a day, depending on how much you want to take in. Brilliant.
  • The receptionist (brunette with long hair) smiles at her colleague but not at the visitors. Maybe it is part of the visitor's experience ?!? When I mentioned she had a lovely smile and should use it for customers too, she found me rude... well, I kept on smiling... and thankfully some of her colleagues have far better manners. Regarding the museum itself, it's nicely done.
