Providing an excellent view of the town of Shwangau and the mountains of southern Bavaria, Mount Tegelberg is easily accessed by cable car. The cable car climbs 892 m (0.55 mi) from the base to the summit of the mountain, where you will find a Panorama-Restaurant and many hiking trails. It is even possible to hike down from here to the famous Neuschwanstein castle. Adventurous visitors can rent paragliders or hang gliders from the summit, and fly over the valley for an unforgettable experience. There is an amazing hike from the car park at the bottom of the cable car that takes you past Neuschwanstein Castle, up to Queen Mary’s Bridge for views of the castle. Going further up the peak, there are beautiful views of Alpsee lake. The trail at some points has fallen trees and a few rocks that are awkward to pass, so be prepared to climb over (or under) one or two fallen trees! There is a pub serving food at the top by the cable car. Cable car costs approx 14€. When you get down there’s a toboggan for 4,50€.
