Royal Palace (Residenzschloss), Dresden

A museum complex that holds some of Dresden's most valuable artwork, Royal Palace (Residenzschloss) is also an art library with more than 260,000 volumes on art history. The massive complex is an all-day affair that includes both the palace and the Green Vault. The palace was the home of the electors and the kings of Saxony for almost half a millennium, and their history is laced through the many rooms and exhibits. The Gallery of the Electors and the Hausmannsturm are in the castle's largest tower. View the collection of prints, drawings, and photographs on display, as well as the Dresden State Art Collection. The armory has an impressive selection of historical weaponry, including a Turkish chamber with mother-of-pearl inlay artifacts.
