National Gallery, Tbilisi

The section on Niko Pirosmani was very good and worth visiting the gallery for that alone. In terms of the number of art pieces and the collection of artists it was a bit underwhelming. But the gallery itself is surrounded by a lovely garden which is well worth a stroll through and next door to a very impressive Georgian church.

Although less impressive, but more established than the Museum of Fine Arts, the Georgian National Gallery offers an introduction to Pirosmani's tremendous paintings, which depict life in the countryside and Georgians in their homeland. The museum also offers a glimpse of the costumes and designs that have inspired many in Europe and Russia, and continue to do so.
