Create an itinerary including Eglise Saint Maclou
Considered one of the best examples of the flamboyant style of Gothic architecture in France, Eglise Saint Maclou was built during the transition from the Romanesque period to the Gothic. Construction began sometime after 1432; this Roman Catholic church was to replace an existing parish church that had suffered from several years of neglect. Master mason Pierre Robin created a basilica-style church with four radiating chapels around an octagonal choir. The decoration is macabre, harkening to the church's grim roots in the black death pandemic. Flying buttresses above the aisles are attached to the western wall, which features a rose window. • I thought this church had much more to offer than Notre Dame. Not as crowded, which made it easier to navigate and explore. The stained glass windows were lovely, prettier than at Notre Dame I...

  • This place not far from the cathedral is stunning, and like the Cathedral the detail takes along time to take in. The skill of the builders is amazing and shows every where you look.

  • Rouen has three outstanding Churches: the imposing Rouen Cathedral, the Saint-Ouen Abbey and this one - St. Maclou Church. You cannot tell which one's more beautiful, so I suggest visiting all three. This makes no special effort at all, as all of them are in a 1 km radius, literally 7, 8 min walk one from another.
  • Beautiful catholic church in Rouen. We were lucky to listen to organ music in the evening.
