Church of Notre Dame la Grande is a part of the Catholic diocese of Poitiers and is situated next to the Palace of Justice. The church was first referred to as the Sancta Maria Maior in historical texts dating back to the tenth century. The exact date of its construction is not known. It was renovated and inaugurated for the second time in 1086, by Pope Urban II. It certainly is worth your visit. It is situated on a lovely square. The church is beaitiful shaped and the west work is worth your attention. The inside is the gem. Beautiful wall paintings en yet...

A very ancient church, medium sized but contains a lot of history with beautiful stained glass and painted ceilings. Located in the heart of the old Poitiers village. Very quaint.

A truly inspiring and profoundly spiritual place. Fascinating for me because I discovered a connection between here and the 12thC Ardmore Cathedral in Co. Waterford in Ireland - near where I live. Adam and Eve.
