Trip Planner: Europe / France / Centre-Val de Loire / Loir-et-Cher / Cheverny / Chateau de Cheverny
Renowned for magnificent interiors and the collection of furniture, tapestries, and objets d'art, Chateau de Cheverny has belonged to the same family for over six centuries. They own a pack of about seventy hunting dogs that live on the grounds, and you can watch them being fed on the live video feed. Guided tours offer added fun as you drive an electric car or boat to discover the grounds. A walk down to the guardroom leads you to a collection of arms and armor, while venturing further brings you to the Chambre du Roi that is richly hung with five Parisian tapestries designed by Simon Vouet to represent the story of Ulysses. Your visit to the castle includes a look at the fictional castle by author and illustrator, Hergé, the creator of the "Adventures of Tintin," who used Cheverny as his inspiration. We visited this chateau a month ago and we were a bit disappointed. We mainly came to see the feeding of the hounds--which they no longer do, as they said the dogs become very nervous around crowds...

We did it all. We took the whole package of visiting the chateau, taking a glided tour car ride around their grounds, seeing old growth trees and many types of pine, Cyprus trees and poplar trees. They have 5,000 areas and about 2,500 areas of trees are used to generate money. And lastly, we took a boat ride through the lilly pads. It was most delightful. The Chateau was in a nice setting. We went through some rooms on the ground floor and I went through the few rooms on the next floor up. There were a lot of school children visiting the Chateau. So, it made it hard to see it all. It's worth the trip to visit this 600 year single family owned Chateau!
It is the best preserved Castle in the region. Well kept inside. Worth visiting it while going to the Loire. Put it number one in the list
