Cliffbase, Sveta Nedelja

I had a magical cave wine tasting experience at Cliffbase, a large remote wine cellar built in the cliffs of South Hvar, Croatia. The cave wine cellar was built over a span of 5 years, and is located inside an old limestone chasm next to the Adriatic sea created with dynamite. In order to get to the cave, we hired a speedboat through our hotel to the island and then climbed up the front entrance to reach the remote location. The owner, Mirko, is a amazing. He is a climber, a kind human, and also wine connoisseur who brings workers and volunteers from all over the world to maintain the vineyard, make olive oil, and teach mountaineering/climbing. If you go to Croatia you must go to this mesmerizing place! One of the highlights of my year!

Beautiful place and great climbing, hard rated routes though, but lots of fun :) Sadly it’s quite pricey to stay for basic accommodation. Even the entrance to climb is very expensive (60 Kuna p.p.) The owner wasn’t around much, didn’t show us the place and came across a bit disinterested. Watch out for the sea urchin in the ocean!
