At Church of St. Euphemia see the painted sarcophagus and relics of St. Euphemia, the patron saint of the town. The Baroque church was built in 1736 over the remains of an older church dedicated to St. George. The statue of St. Euphemia, which serves as a weather vane, greets you from the 60 m (197ft) high bell tower. Enter the church, go to the right and find the altar of St. Euphemia. Look behind it to see the sarcophagus painted with scenes of the martyrdom of the saint. Climb the bell tower, which resembles the tower of St Mark's Basilica in Venice. On a clear day you can see the Alps. Put Church of St. Euphemia and other Rovinj attractions into our Rovinj trip itinerary planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • The walk to the church has historical markers in different languages along the way describing historical buildings and sites. So be careful as the well worn cobblestones are slippery in places. Shoes with good treads are a must if you have balance issues! Inside of the church is interesting and we especially enjoyed reading the history of how St Euphemia was brought to the church. Be prepared to respect the dress codes. I always take a scarf to cover my shoulders and husband always removes his hat. The view is sensational and photo opportunities are everywhere. As a plus everyone we spoke with in the Old Town area was quite pleasant.
