Create an itinerary including Fort Lovrijenac
See the castle on a cliff, Fort Lovrijenac, one of Dubrovnik's most recognizable sights, and a detail from HBO's "Game of Thrones." Sitting 37 m (121 ft) above sea level, the fort dates back to 1018, when it was intended to protect the western part of Dubrovnik. Today, you can witness some of the events that take place at the site, which is sometimes compared with Gibraltar. Climb the 175 steps to the fort to see some of the best views of the city and the bay. Look for cannons that were designed by the leading local cannon caster of the epoch. A visit to Fort Lovrijenac represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Dubrovnik journey website to plot your vacation.

  • Way less busy than the walls (17:30-18:30 visit). Stunning views! Pretty photos on the walk up to/around the fort as well. Inside is usually empty, but they were setting up for Romeo and Juliet so there were chairs and lighting etc.
  • Perfect spot to see most of Dubrovnik and the walls of the old Town. You must have the city pass entrance ticket (150Kn pp) but it is worth it for what you get access to. There is a fair amount of stair climbing but nothing too strenuous. Probably the best place in Dubrovnik for views.
