Create an itinerary including Santuario Nossa Senhora de Azambuja
An example of Romantic architectural style, Santuario Nossa Senhora de Azambuja is an imposing structure with two 40-meter (130-foot) towers. Inside this well-maintained church are two marble altars, two side chapels, four confessionals, and 72 wooden benches. Built between 1939 and 1956, on the site of two earlier churches, this building is the site of pilgrimage for thousands of faithful from all over Brazil. Each August the church becomes the meeting place for over 80,000 believers, arriving from distant corners of Latin America to celebrate the Feast of Our Lady of Azambuja. You can stop by for daily mass here, or visit the adjoining museum of sacred art, most of which dates back to the colonial times.
