In 2012 the local government acknowledged the historical importance of Antonina by making its Setor Historico (Historic Sector) a heritage sight. The region was one of the earliest areas explored by the Portuguese Crown in southern Brazil, and the town owes its early prosperity to gold mining in the area. Take a walk down cobbled streets with colorful colonial houses on either side, visit the three historic churches, including the Church of Our Lady of Pilar, dating back to 1714, and try the regional dish, Barreado. • The old historic part of town is great for a relaxing wander. In places you will get some great views of the Port as well. Cobblestone streets everywhere - all just adds to the charm of this...
