At the heart of a vibrant market stands Anker Clock, an Art Nouveau clock that tells more than the time. Built between 1911 and 1914, the ornately decorated, gold-accented piece is the creation of painter and sculptor Franz von Matsch, and it makes up part of the bridge connecting two parts of the Anker Insurance Company building. At the stroke of every hour, a historical figure crosses the bridge; at noon--the time the clock is most sought out--all 12 figures emerge (including Marcus Aurelius, Rudolf von Habsburg, and Joseph Haydn), accompanied by organ music from each era. Following the performance, browse the market for a great selection of fresh bakery, produce, and deli groceries. Put Anker Clock and other Vienna attractions into our Vienna day trip site, and watch your holiday take shape.

It is quite hidden in the city, but it is really interesting. I am not sure if the time is correct but it is a jewel in Vienna.

A beautiful timepiece, in my opinion comparable to the astronomical clock in Prague. When you're here, make sure to check underneath the clock as well, here is some beautiful stone art hidden!
