Climb to the top of Uhrturm, the medieval clock tower offering a panoramic view of the city. Originally built as a medieval defense tower, the city paid Napoleon a ransom in 1809 to keep it from being destroyed when the other fortifications on the hill overlooking the city were conquered. The clock is unique in that the large hand shows the hour and the small one minutes. The small hand was added much later since the large one could be seen from the town at the bottom of the hill. Those with mobility challenges should take the tram or elevator to the top of the tower. A visit to Uhrturm represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Graz online travel route planner to plot your vacation.

definitely worth the walk up the stairs or path to get to see the Uhrturm (clock tower) up close. you can go visit the Herbersteingarten from the clock tower or go have a coffee at Aiola...

This is probably the biggest tourist attraction in Graz. The view from up here is absolutely amazing. The clock tower itself is a great piece of architecture. It's worth coming up here for sure. We went up in the lift but you can walk up the winding staircase or by venicular train.

I used to go here every moment I had some time off from Uni in 2011. Walking up the stairs, relaxing in one of the great grass fields, or just sitting next to the Uhrturm in the evening to watch the freaking awesome sunset that shed it's light and shades over the beautiful "red roof" city of Graz. In love, i want to come back and visit sometime
