The Point Lowly lighthouse was constructed in 1883 to guide ships safely through Spencer Gulf en route to Port Augusta and Port Pirie in South Australia. It was upgraded several times before being deactivated in 1993. It was reactivated in 1995 and is a tourist attraction for the Whyalla area and an icon of the Point Lowly area.

  • Perfect spot for freecamping. $10 a night, take a pen with you to fill in details,it's a $174 fine not to,so do the right thing.... Oh,and had a pod of dolphins swim right by us this morning, totally worth the visit.
  • Interesting part of local history's oddities with the lighthouse heightening in 1909, it's decommissioning by AMSA in 1993 and the takeover by Whyalla council in 1995.
