Rising to a height of 286 m (938 ft) above sea level and dominating the skyline, Castle Hill is a pink granite monolith in the heart of the city. It is one of the most distinctive natural features on Queensland's coast. From a number of vantage points on the hill, you can view the city and the Magnetic Island, which is visible across Cleveland Bay. Many locals walk up this hill for daily exercise. There are many different routes to the top, including a paved road or rough paths. The hill is home to 300 native plant species, which the local conservation council protects through an on-going bush rejuvenation program.
