We wanted something else to do on our road trip from Mudgee to Port Stephens… this was a hidden gem! It broke up the trip for the kids…we had bikes… but can be walked from parking the car! Next...

Easy / pleasant drive out from Mudgee. Signage is questionable as you arrive - but road improvements going may have something to do with this. No amenities at the trail head or mapping. Pretty...

An hour walk in, over highland via fire trail with not much bush cover - if travelling in summer, make sure you are well covered. The tree trunks had a beautiful assortment of colour but the main view is at the end once you get to the precipice - stunning (partly moss covered) rock formations. Then an hour walk back in the same direction.

Castle Rocks walk is a mostly flat, walking track that takes you through Munghorn Gap Nature Reserve. The track is 2m wide most of the way, well marked by fine sand. In just 4km you will reach the bottom of the lookout, after which some scrambling is required to reach the top of the lookout. We didn’t see any emus however the view is spectacular. Hard to believe this spot isn’t more popular. Easy to understand why this site is important for Wiradjuri people. Please take your rubbish with you, let’s retain this special places’ beauty
