Once a limestone cave, Umpherston Sinkhole was created when the cave ceiling collapsed. The sunken earth proved a perfect place for growing lush greenery. Thick vines cascade over the sinkhole's edge while the center is landscaped with grasses and palms. Take a walk through the garden for an otherworldly look beneath the green curtains and between the limestone rocks. • Such a charming place! We didn't walk down to the garden as there were many stairs, but the view from the top was lovely.

  • Amazing sink hole which is both larger and more lush than expected. Walking path down to the bottom with various information displays on the way. Well worth the time and effort to visit. Car parking.....  more

  • Great experience! Beautiful garden and natural features in the caves below. We unfortunately went when very crowded, but there were enough spots to sneak away and view in peace. Beehives in the cave and the scent of fresh honey was a nice surprise. Worthy of a stop while you're visiting Mt. Gambier!
  • This was an amazing little garden. I've been to mount Gambier twice and didn't know about this place!A little history worth seeing. There are small caverns where possums live. If you are fortunate you car feed the animals around dusk! Bring some vegetables (carrots) or fruit like banana.
