The maze of specialty shops set up in Victorian-style, wood-and-red-brick building where South Melbourne Market resides offers everything from fruits to silver jewelry. Open since 1867, the market is Melbourne's longest-running one. Among the many stalls, you'll find fresh produce, internatioal cuisine such as dim sum and Turkish gozleme, gifts, housewares, and men's and women's fashions. You can also learn recipes and techniques in cooking classes that Melbourne chefs regularly host here. It’s not just fruit and vege. The French baker here is incredible. Many different food options here from different nationalities ready to eat. Including a Intl bottle shop......it’s a must visit.

The most amazing place ever! The range of shops and goods for sale is outstanding! Apart from clothing and soft toys, shoes, phone accessories, jewellery etc ... all the usual market fare .... the range of food is outstanding! From fresh fruit and vegetables to top quality meats and seafood. Amazing! Plus gourmet coffee and nuts. Well worth a visit!

Loved this market. It has wonderful produce, and I got waylaid at one of the several glorious oyster bars where they have a mind boggling array of oysters from all the best places including several varieties grim Tasmania. There was all sorts of other fresh and tasty seafood as well. We had a breakfast of oysters and then lunch was half a crunchy pork knuckle, so delicious. Flowers, plants galore, clothes, exotic goods from far and wide, all top quality. I got my eyes photographed. These can be framed or set in resin with special effects like gold flecks. Something very different. The ambience of these markets is great. I'm going back again this weekend too before I leave to go back home to Queensland. Best markets I've been to in a long while. Definitely a foodies paradise. See you there.
