Of the famous corrugated-iron “starting stalls” that once constituted Kalgoorlie’s Hay Street red-light district, we are the only one left.

A curious cloak of gentility cloaks this frontage. This house tells more of the town’s history and social attitudes than all the over restored pomp of Kal’s gold-rush grandeur.

The front belies the friendly interior. Once, the gates were decorated by underclad ladies of the night, now, most stand empty, a sign of the times.See them, before they vanish into the wastes of gentrification.

Carmen was very entertaining & a delight to listen to. She certainly had everyone’s attention. A must do when in Kalgoorlie.

$15 per person for a 90min tour, consisting mostly of spoken history and old stories plus a very limited tour round the venue (couple of rooms). It was interesting, and worth a visit, but I wouldn't go again. Update: realised it was actually $30/each. Absolutely not worth the money.

Really interesting experience and opens your eyes to the business a lot more. Some incredible stories and a great host. Carmel (I think is her name) is a very interesting and unique person with the greatest accent ever (worth going just to listen to her talk) The best way to hear about the other side of Kalgoorlie away from the gold mining. Definitely recommend
