Create an itinerary including Museum of the Goldfields
A towering headframe--a steel structure usually found above an underground mine shaft--marks the entrance into Museum of the Goldfields, giving visitors a hint that this is no ordinary museum. A huge collection of gold nuggets, bars, and other glittering objects is displayed in an underground vault, and the second floor of the museum is taken up with indigenous cultural items and historical artifacts from the early mining days. From the viewing platform on the headframe you'll have a panoramic view of the town, and well beyond it. Visit this site for a chance to step back in time and see how prospectors used to search for gold, and learn all about the hardships faced by their families during the early 1900s. • The museum was the best-spent couple of hours of our trip to Kalgoorlie. Two and a half hours felt like about 30 minutes. A must-see if you have the least bit of interest in WA history.

  • Highly recommend. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable. There a lot to look at across different levels from vaults to lookout platform. Will definitely come back to check it out again next time I’m in town
  • Interesting history and wonderful pieces on show. Walk and explore. They have different exhibits at times and staff were so friendly and inviting. An amazing view of Kalgoorlie from the top.
