For a cultural experience head to Gyumri Main Square, a pedestrian area surrounded by interesting buildings. You'll find two large churches on either end of the square, a water fountain in the center, and a statue of military hero Vardan Mamikunian. Due to a calamitous earthquake in 1988, one of the churches stands partly ruined and under an ongoing reconstruction process. After walking around the square and admiring the architecture, make your way to one of the nearby cafes or restaurants to people watch and grab a quick snack.
