Chùa Giác Lâm (Giac Lam Pagoda), Ho Chi Minh City

Enjoy intense colors in an urban sanctuary of Chùa Giác Lâm (Giac Lam Pagoda), a historic Buddhist pagoda believed to be the oldest temple in Ho Chi Minh City. Standing 65 m (213 ft) tall, this seven story stupa set in a lovely garden with a big Bodhi tree houses countless gilded figures blending Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. Built in 1744, the temple features a seated statue of the colorful haloed Buddha of Enlightenment with five children climbing all over him, and an elaborate candle holder with images of Buddha. Climb the pagoda and enjoy a panorama of the city from one of its octagonal balconies. • Entering this place is like entering a magical world. When we arrived, I was taken by the sound coming from inside the pagoda to the altar of prayers. There the monks in prayer position sang very different chants of everything I've ever seen in my life. The feeling that gives is that we are invading a sacred place, but the serenity as they receive visitors and the enormous concentration they have, does not allow us to think so. In fact they chant their chants and do their rituals as if no one was around. On the spot can not enter with uncovered head, much less shoulders and legs and there is the requirement to take off the shoes from one point onwards. There they do not provide clothing for those who are not suitably dressed, so if you are visiting better, you will be betrayed so that you can enter the enclosure. The inside has beautiful altars and the music that is heard and indeed intoxicating. At the entrance there is a tree to leave orders where people have hung thousands of notes. The entrance is Frank. It's not too big and right at the entrance has a giant white Buddha, a very beautiful statue. Loved the place!!
