Explore the nature and local life on Cat Ba Island, the largest island of the Cat Ba Archipelago and home to a diverse marine and terrestrial ecosystem. A national park covers half of the island's surface, where tropical limestone forests, karsts, mangroves, coral reefs, emerald lagoons, and hidden caves harbor indigenous animal and plant life. Visit the small communities living on floating fishing villages to learn about their way of life, traditions, customs, and cuisine. Besides discovering the island by land, you can take a ferryboat or rent a kayak to discover secluded areas and look for adventures. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Cat Ba holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Cat Ba Island and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

This is a post about a trip in a time when we are confined, so I would like to write about non-travel. I think that everyone deserves to see paradise before dying. Most of us travel to have new... more »

Cat Ba is great for people looking to escape the city or do some treking. The scenery is still fantastic and the lack of infrastructure makes you feel like your setting back in time riding through... more »

I'm sure Cát Bà Island was once a beautiful place, and will be again, but for us it was one giant building site. I was expecting beach bars and bamboo huts, but instead it looked more like Blackpool/ Whitley bay. May give it another try in a few years when the beaches are finished.

The Largest island in Ha Long Bay. Cat Ba, while in Ha Long Bay, is a "separate identity" which includes about 360 islands in its archipelago! It is also the most populated island, with about 13,000 people in 6 communities and another 4,000 in various floating villages. About 1/2 of the island is delineated as a National Park. There are many hotels [large and small] and fine, sandy beaches. I stayed for 5 nights and was very pleased to have done so!! There are interesting restaurants, natural as well as man made attractions, motor scooters for rent-- and lots to see and do! It adds ever so much to one's visit to Ha Long Bay. It has also been awarded TripAdvisor's "Certificate of Excellence". I hope that this Review has been helpful.
