Explore station to station on Khamid Alimdjan, one of most ornate underground transit systems in the world. Built in 1977 in the former Soviet Union, the metro contains three lines--Chilonzor, O'zbekiston, and Yunusobod--divided into 29 architecturally themed stations, and carries a daily average of 162,000 passengers. Examine the artistic decorations and interior designs of each station, usually made of marble, granite, metal engraving, and carved alabaster. Security officials legally prohibit taking pictures, since the metro system installations belong to the military.
