Landmark · Tourist Spot
Explore the vast center of Tashkent's public and ceremonial life at Independence Square (Mustakillik Square), surrounded by government administrative buildings and manicured gardens with greenery. Enter Ezgulik Arch, considered to be the arch of good and noble aspirations, and observe the marble colonnade where three storks flying over a globe with Uzbekistan's borders on it. See the monument to independence, a gilt bronze globe with an image of Uzbekistan elevated on a red marble pedestal (once supporting a statue of Lenin), under which a mother nurses an infant. Three fountains set in a large pool provide a pleasant view for visitors taking a leisurely stroll around and along Ankhor River, which traverses the square.
