  • This is on the same loop as Old Faithful, Beehive and Grand Geyser and it does look a bit like a castle with two turrets  more »
  • Hiking through the park, we were able to see Castle Geyser! It was amazing to see the steam and feel the heat from this work of nature! Definitely a don't miss!  more »
  • We were lucky enough to see Castle as it only goes off a couple of times per day. Much better, less crowded, and a longer eruption than OF. My favorite geyser here along with Riverside, not too far aw...  more »

  • We were watching old faithful and this geyser started erupting and it was beautiful. We started walking towards it and it was going on strong for a while after we reached there. You can go much closer to it than old faithful.
  • Fast facts: Elevation: 7,333 feet Eruption height: 90 feet (27 m) Frequency: 10 to 12 hours Duration: 20 minutes Castle Geyser is a cone geyser in the Upper Geyser Basin of Yellowstone National Park. It is noted for the particularly large geyserite sinter deposits, which form its cone. These deposits have been likened in appearance to a castle. When the geyser was given this name in 1870, the top edges of the structure resembled the typical profile associated with the modern concept of a castle, having the appearance of a large keep, multiple turrets, and especially because of the crenelation along the top edges of what resembled its towers. As the drawing below shows the cone had distinctive appearance at the time. Over time the cone's shape changes because of the layers of mineral deposited in successive eruptions.
  • If you made it this far to see Old Faithful, walk a little down the trail to see Castle Geyser.
  • A very tall geyser that goes off about once ever 13 hours. Check Yellowstone's Geyser Times website to see which Geysers are erupting when
