One of the most photographed sights in Yellowstone National Park, Artist Point offers panoramic views of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and lower Yellowstone Falls. The spot purportedly got its name because visitors thought it was the point from which Thomas Moran made sketches for his famed painting of the falls in 1872 (it was later determined that the sketches were made from a different spot). From this point you're surrounded by an array of soft pinks, yellows, and oranges that color the rugged façade of the canyon walls. Visit the overlook to see rainbows in the spray of the falls, which are 94 m (308 ft) high. Bring your binoculars for the chance to spot nesting bald eagles, osprey, and swallows along the cliff tops and canyon walls. This attraction is just a short walk from the parking lot and is accessed via a paved path that is wheelchair accessible. Put Artist Point and other Yellowstone National Park attractions into our Yellowstone National Park travel route planner , and watch your holiday take shape.
Artist Point Reviews
We stopped at many scenic overlooks of the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone and Artist Point was a clear favorite. The vantage point for the waterfalls and the walls of the Canyon were just magnificent. An... more »
This was a beautiful stop on our way through Yellowstone. I could visualize artists lined up painting these views more »
Lovely views of the falls (Yellowstone river) from this Artist Point. Had to do a couple of iterations before finding a parking spot in August, crowded. There was a nice talk by a ranger about the geological nature of Yellowstone. Timings for ranger presentations are posted at the Point. There is a mile long trek that will feel like a lot longer because the trail is not smooth, and you are climbing up hill, and you may find yourself short of breath if you have not adjusted to the altitude. Fantastic views from the trail. You can have all the profile pictures you want!
Sublime and stunning view of the Grand Canyon Valley rightly called Artist Point, Nature has done a perfect 3D painting here, it has got all the components of an artist imagination, multicolored Canyon wall, forest, snowy blue river flowing in the V shaped gorge changing to a 307 ft fall with a beautiful clear blue sky, all gives it a picture perfect natural view.
